Philippians 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound
yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

10 That ye may approve things that are excellent;
that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.

DAY 2—John wrote a Letter about knowing Jesus.

John knew Jesus. He lived with Him. He walked in the crowds with Him. He saw Him heal blind men. He watched Him raise the dead. He heard Him tell a cripple man to take up his bed and walk. He was there when Jesus died. He was with Him through those forty days after He came from the dead. He loved Jesus. Jesus loved Him. There was a special bond between them. Out of that bond he wrote the Letter we know as I John. In this Letter, John tells us how we can know Jesus the same way he came to know Him.

I John 1:1,2—That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon (which we have gazed upon), and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (For the Life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and show unto you that eternal Life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)

My Interpretation—The One Who is from the beginning, Whom we have heard, Whom we have seen with our eyes, Whom we have gazed upon, and the One for Whom our hands have reached when we were in the darkness—concerning the Word of the Life: And the Life came clearly into the Light, and we have seen, and bear witness, and announce to you the Life that is eternal, which was face to face with the Father, and has become manifestly open to us.

O, GREAT REDEEMER, every day that goes by You are meaning more and more to me. As I’m getting to know You personally, Your Love and Faith is becoming real in me. I know it’s Your grace that is bringing this about, because I don’t deserve it. I praise You! Now, won’t You please draw these that I name before You? Draw them up close to Your heart so they too can know how much You love them.

John understood that the Jesus he knew was the expression in time of the eternal Word of God.—John 1:1-14
